Board members are elected directly by the community members to serve and represent the needs of the Tibetan community.  Therefore, TANC board would like to solicit opinions from community members on strengths and weakness of the community at the General Body meeting which will be held on Saturday, Feb 4th from 4pm.

Agenda.

  • TANC financial report from September, 2011.
  • Renovation project of our community center.
  • Solicit opinions on our Sunday School Program and Youth development programs.
  • Bring together viewpoints on Greenbook and membership.
  • Gather fundraising ideas.
  • Open forum.
General Body meeting.

CAAM, TILT & Sahayeta is doing a free 10 week video production workshop for Himalayan youth.  Here’s the link with the application form – we’re extending the deadline to Sept. 9th, next week and the course will be every Saturday from Sept. 24th through Dec. 3rd.

The youth will be given a stipend at the end of their training. There films will be screened at the SF Int. Asian American Film Festival and be screened for the community.

Here’s a more detailed review of the workshop sessions from:

Saturday, September 24th 10am – 3pm
Community Building – (facilitated by CAAM and Sahayeta, and others)
Focus on cultural identity and important issues that this group of youth face
Discuss and Decide video topics
Discuss Flip Cam Diaries - each youth will receive a flip cam to “document” their experience during this workshop

This is a great opportunity for budding filmmakers to create their films! It’s a workshop that will teach a real skill that the youth can use to create their own media.

Himalayan Fair 2011 is fast approaching- May 14 & 15. Everyone knows that Him Fair is one of our biggest fundraising opportunity for TANC. Now that we own community building, there is greater need for funds to pay for utillities, mortgage, renovation and other related expense.
Last year we made good money for TANC with your help. We need your help this time again. TANC request our community members to offer your time and help during two days of Him Fair to help us raise funds towards our community center and general expense. Please help us spread the word to your friends and family.
We also need your help with momo making on May 7, 10 am at our CC. We are going to make few thousand momo for the morning of May 14th.

Youth Development

TANC is hosting co-founder of MACHIK Lobsang Rabgey la on April 29, 6pm at TANC community center dey-shi phunstok ling. Machik is a non profit organization which works to develop new opportunities for education and job training in Tibet towards a strong, healthy and more sustainable future of Tibetans in Tibet and elsewhere. They have done great work by building school, roads, library, health acre and offering clean water to rural areas.

Lobsang Rabgey la, executive director and board member of Machik will be in the bay area between April 28-29 and she is looking forward to outreach and connect with our community here in the bay area. She will update our community with their work done towards Jyekundo Earth Quake relief among others. Machik’s contribution helped bring clean drinking water, basic food supplies, blankets and other emergency assistance directly to communities in the earthquake zone. Currently, They are working on the reconstruction of a community health clinic and the expansion of a vocational training program. They are planing to rebuild Tibetan communities in Jyekundo through improved access to educational opportunities and other social and economic programs.
