Tibetan School

The Tibetan School of Northern California offers classes in Tibetan Language, Tibetan Folk Dance and Traditional Tibetan Musical Instruments. Classes include language and auditory skill building, songs & dance, art, games, etiquette, rituals and Tibetan history, culture, and food.

The language curriculum includes grammar, writing and spoken Tibetan. Classroom learning includes individual and group instructions, and classes are taught by experienced teachers.

Music classes  include lessons on musical instruments like Dranyen (Tibetan Mandolin), Lingbu (Flute), and Yang-jen (Dulcimer).

Classes are currently open to only children in the ages 5-14 years old. School hours are every Sunday from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Recommended Age for Enrollment: 5 years and up. A parent-child class for toddlers and infants, and classes for youths and adults will hopefully be offered in the near future. Classes are open to anyone.

Tuition fees: $15 per month for TANC members.
Nonmembers: $20 per month
(There is a $5 discount per student for each additional member from the same family)

Text books and musical instruments and costumes will be provided. However, students should bring their own writing materials.

The school also organizes periodical field trips to cultural and educational sites in the greater Bay Area.  The trips provide enrichment activities to stimulate our students to explore new horizons, expand creativity, experience Tibetan culture and other cultures, and broaden their base of knowledge.
