This ferry criss-crosses the Yarlung Tsangpo River several times a day, bringing pilgrims to and from Samye Monastery. (or, rather, to within a 30-40 minute drive to Samye, in any of an assortment of Mad-Max looking vehicles available for hire.) The ferry ride on the broad smooth muddy waters was a tranquil dream, the ferry's primitive tractor motor puttering us along the surface, skimming the sandbars, feeling companionable with our pilgrim boat mates.
