| Women in Construction Part of a demolition crew, these women were ripping down a building in the Ramuche area with sledgehammers and other manual tools. I was heartened by the way men and women shared physical work in Tibet, as well as, in several of the households we visited, child-rearing and cooking duties. One toddler called her caretaking Grandfather "Ama-la" -- Mother. The Grandmother in that family serves as administrative head of her apartment block. Young children shared in the work as well, caring for the babies, shopping, hand washing their own clothes. |
