Religious murals line the inner courtyard of the main temple at Samye Monastery as they do most temples in Tibet. Damage or total destruction from the Chinese occupation is common, but less common is this particular kind of damage -- with the eyes and mouth of the Buddha scratched out. It was heartbreaking to walk along and see the Buddhas otherwise intact but blinded and speechless.
