| Potala Palace with Chinese Banner
More than any other place in Tibet, the lifeless rooms and halls of the Tse Potala leave one feeling bereft. There are a few desultory caretaker monks who may or may not be spies for the government. Mostly there are empty rooms which His Holiness and his monks used to fill with prayer and their rich and varied lives. And there are faded thrones topped with empty robes to remind you of His absence. |
